 | His first foray in fashion was as assistant designer for Christian
Dior; when the famed, older designer suddenly passed away in 1957, the
brilliant 21-year-old Yves Saint Laurent replaced him as the world’s
youngest couturier. In 1961, he established his own fashion house and
produced collections that won much acclaim. He took haute couture in a
completely new direction by introducing the “Rive Gauche” ready-to-wear
line. In 1999, the house was purchased by Gucci Group. Since then, the
brand has been repositioned at the top end of the luxury goods market.
